Narrative
Garden Spot Village Retirement Community opened its doors in New Holland, PA, in 1996. Five years later, they added a skilled nursing facility based on the traditional hospital model. The community's commitment to improve the residents’ life experience led management to explore new models for nursing care as they began planning for a new addition/renovation.
SFCS developed an addition with two households and the existing facility was redesigned into 25 semi-private and private rooms. The households support a new philosophy of care; one of resident-centered care designed to maximize freedom of choice in all aspects of their life. This project represents one of the first resident-directed care nursing projects in the State of Pennsylvania, implementing small size households in both new and renovated facilities.
Garden Spot Village was recently featured in Healthcare Design magazine's "Architectural Showcase." The project page referenced for the article is available for viewing here -> Garden Spot Project Page.pdf
