Narrative
SFCS conducted a master plan for Lakeview Village, a 90-acre campus in suburban Kansas City. As part of the master plan, a 102-unit apartment building was designed to enhance the lives of existing and future baby boomer residents. The building utilizes an angular/diagonal design to maximize the building's footprint on its narrow, bounded four-acre site. Eight different one- and two-bedroom apartment floor plans were designed to take advantage of the building's many interior and exterior corners, providing more windows and natural light. Small windows set above eye-level also add light and exterior interest. Tray ceilings, ample balconies and large walk-in closets provide a spacious feel to these apartments, which range up to 1,744 square feet.
Parking is provided under the building, and elevators located throughout minimize travel distances. The designers placed the dining room, a lounge, and the community multi-purpose room on the top floor to take advantage of spectacular views, with balconies for open-air seating. The dining room and multi-purpose room share a kitchen to enable catering of multiple events.
Centrally located on each of the lower floors is an activity space--an exercise room, billiards, or arts and crafts--that overlook the Sun Terrace, an attractive elevated patio that serves as a large gathering space for cook-outs and outdoor events. Tucked below the Sun Terrace is the loading/receiving area, hidden from the residents' view.
