Virginia Tech Torgersen Hall
Blacksburg, VA
Envisioned as a new building type for the information age, the 151,000sf Torgersen Hall includes an array of informal learning spaces that can be reconfigured easily to study new hardware, software, and teaching methods. Tiered classrooms and seminar spaces are equipped to accommodate teleconferencing or traditional teaching styles. Observation rooms provide direct views of classroom activities and double as control rooms for broadcasting lectures or demonstrations for distance education. Torgersen includes a bridge which connects it to Newman Library and the interior is a very popular "electronic reading room" among users.
Designed in collaboration with Esocoff & Associates.
