Edenwald, an established urban CCRC in Towson, MD, wanted to create additional amenities and expand its' offering of independent living choices within its' limited space. Extensive strategic planning and research led to the reconfiguration of the healthcare center and a new 12-story addition to their independent living building, which boasts resort style amenities for active aging consumers. The new independent living residences feature open floor plans, large balconies, and generous natural light in multiple plan options. New amenities include formal dining venues, a garden court, pub, large multi-purpose room, and a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center. In addition, designers integrated principles of Sustainable Design by implementing green roof technology, sun screens, and energy efficient thermal envelope and HVAC systems. The green-roof provides an elevated terrace with dining options, putting green, small water features, and walking gardens creating visual interest and outdoor activity spaces for residents.
